Canvas

I was looking through my finished projects and realized I hadn't posted this canvas that I made for a teacher gift at the end of the school year. I don't remember where the vintage picture is from, sorry. I began by putting a layer of gesso on the the canvas. I glued the picture down with gel medium.I then took an off set paint spatula and smeared paint all over the canvas. While the paint was still wet I brushed on some Perfect Pearls.When the paint and gel medium were dry I stamped a script stamp randomly over the canvas, applied the gemstone swirls,trim and stamped the verse. The verse is from Tim Holtz's Good Thoughts stamp set. The flower is made from coffee filters and Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist. I added a little extra sparkle to the flower with Ranger Stickles. Fantastic Face Painting

We celebrated Canada Day and two very special little girls' birthdays on July first. There was an EXTREMELY TALENTED artist there who did some face painting on the kids. Please check out Creative Faces to see more of their work and to book them for your next party. I only took photos of my kids but all the kids in attendance looked awesome after David was done. He also did balloon sculptures and a little juggling. I'm thinking the face painting would be fun for an adult party too. You know like theme parties....Mardi Gras Masks, a Stagette party, Halloween, use your imagination. :)

Playing around with Tim

Spent some time today playing with Tim Holtz. The new Distress Stains that have just hit the stores are fantastic. The tag below also features stamps from Studio 490. Pucker Up

This face...what can I say about it??? I taught them this. I was waiting for everyone to finish up supper and I looked at Ray and made this face. Everyone burst out laughing. It was one of those nights, you know everyone is in a goofy mood kind of night. Well now this is what we do if someone is bored, or needs cheering up or is angry. You jsut can't help but snicker and laugh. :)

Genuine Boy

My son is caught in that in between world of being a little boy and wanting to be a big boy. He turned 7 last month and still likes little boy stuff and snuggles with Mommy but he is being drawn to the older boys who influence his world. He follows their every move and imitates their every action but when he gets hurt or his world feels like it's falling apart he still wants his Mommy. And that's OK. ;) He's rough and tough and wears his heart on his sleeve, but most importantly he is Genuine in all that he does.

My Little Yellow Bicycle makes fantastic boy papers. The line I used on this LO is Generation Z . I love how this line lends itself to distressing and grunging....my two favorite things. ;) The little x stamp on the side of the photo is from Fiskars. I also stamped with myStamp Box. I used the Colour Me Alpha's to stamp Boy. The other words are stamped from a collection of stamps I found at the Dollar store and there is no company name on them. I used the Tatterd Floral die from Sizzix to cut the flowers from tissue paper. I think I cut about 5-6 of each size of petal. I really like a full flower when I'm finished. The tissue paper flower was then Glimmer Misted...way too much fun. If you've never played with the Tattered Angles Glimmer Mist you should give it a try. ;) I used Sapphire and Tiger Lilly...unfortunately I don't think they make this colour any more. As the flower was drying I scrunched it a little for added dimension..I inked the edges of my papers with Black Soot. I finished things off with a little hand doodling ribbon and ric rak. It's a page that makes me smile.

Easy to Love

A fun page done with some g.c.d studios papers. I used the Melody Ross Artsy Urban Collection.
My Hubby really is Easy To Love. He makes me laugh and loves me despite all my idiosyncrasies. He is calm and patient while I am so NOT like that. We really are as different as night and day and that is why life with him is never dull. Most importantly though he gets why I scrapbook and totally supports my obsession, and that is why he is Easy To Love. :-)

I really, really like how this page developed. I've got some vintage goodness on here as well as lots of distressing. There is hidden journalling behind the picture..just pull on the tag. I painted the chipboard letters and then sanded them here and there before applying Crackle Accents. The Pattern Paper is from Basic Grey and it's called Basic. :) Some of the flowers are Prima and the rest are just from my stash. (I'll let you in on a little secret, I have a huge rubber tote full of flowers. There really isn't any room in the tote for more but..... have you seen the new releases from Prima?? I think it's time to get a bigger tote.) The white branch is from a big sprig I picked up on my wonderings. A little Vintage lace finishes off the page. I love how it mimics the branches in the photo.

Journalling reads: We spent the day at Beaver Creek Conservation with friends. Upon arrival we received paper cups full of birdseed to feed to the Chickadees. You spent most of your time trying to get them to come and eat from your hand. You were so hopeful. One look at your face tells me they never came.

I created this Layout to celebrate my 15th Wedding Anniversary. I can not believe how quickly time has flown. It really does seem like just yesterday we said "I do". What changes have occurred in the last 15 years???? Well our hair has gotten shorter and grayer, we've finally let go of the 80's though that decade will always live on in our hearts. We're the parents to 4 pretty awesome kids...maybe that's what's contributing to our gray hairs. LOL. We've lived and laughed a lot over the last 15 years some years were harder than others but we always made it through. I am so lucky to have this man in my life and I am proud to call him my husband.

Here's my photo from yesterday. I snapped a photo of Dawn G's hand. I loved how it looked. I added 3 layers of saturation and am almost giddy with how it looks. The background is so abstract and neon and awesome. :) Dawn's hand almost looks like it's ready to leap off the page. :) I'm having a blast with this project. I know it's supposed to chronicle more of your daily life but it's my 365 and my interpretation and I am having fun! It is good for the creative heart.

Here we are at day 6 already.Today's photo is making my heart happy. I spent the day with a great friend. We always have fun when we get together. Today we went to a local art store called Art Placement. It's a hidden jewel in our city. They have the most amazing papers and art supplies. If you have never been there go check them out. After a lunch of Dim Sum at a local restaurant we spent the afternoon "junking" at the local thrift stores. We both found some fun stuff to get our creative juices going. So here is my selection of finds from all the places we visited.

Custom Jean Patches Tutorial

I live in a house where everyone wears the knees out of their jeans. All 4 of my children and my Husband too. I used to send all our pants to my MIL to be fixed but she is unable to do it anymore. So I was thinking with all the nice material and patterns on the market and all the cutting systems too that making some cool patches shouldn't be too hard. The patches turned out awesome and my kids loved them. What do you think??

I used cotton/cotton blend and flannel fabrics. The first thing I did was to apply heat and bond to the back of the fabric. This stiffens up the fabric and for non-sewers allows you to then iron the fabric onto your project with no sewing involved. I do find that I do need to sew it on to anything that will be going through the washing machine.

I love the versatility of my Making Memories Slice. There are so many cartridges to choose from so no matter what kind of a custom patch design you want, you should be able to find it. Keep in mind you can't cut heavier fabrics with the Slice.I use my Big Shot and dies to cut heavier fabrics like denim. Select your image and cut.

There are many ways to address how to prepare the jeans for patching. I find it is easiest to rip open the inside seem or the seem that doesn't have fancy stitching with a seem ripper. This allows me lots of room to work .

Too prepare the spot I am patching I remove the tattered material and make a nice square hole. I then measure and cut a piece of denim to fit from old jeans that I keep on hand just for patches.

I sew around the perimeter of the patch with at straight stitch and sew around the cut area with a zig zag stitch. I usually go around twice just to help keep any fraying in check. Now because I used heat and bond on my patch I iron it on and then zig zag stitch around it. I do this twice also.

This is what the back side of the patch looks like. I don't worry too much about the fraying on the patch edges. By the time these are frayed and need to be replaced the jeans are either toast or the kids have out grown them.

I zig zag sew the seem back together (do this twice) and the jeans are done and ready to wear.

Project 365 - Day3

Ray and I have been wanting to get skates for the kids for a while now but just weren't able to do it. This year we were finally able to do it. The kids were so excited. They had never been skating before. They took to it like ducks to water. ;) We only got a couple of outing's in before the weather turned cold. I'm hoping this cold snap doesn't last long. Ray and I even got skates. It's been about 20 years since either of us had been skating. It all came back to us...just like riding a bike. Speaking of wich that might be our next investment.
I saturated the colours a little in the photo just because I loved how the red and blue laces pop.

Project 365 - Day 2

Yummy.....Warm apple crisp and ice cream. I love these kinds of desserts in the winter time. :) Today I made Ray's favorite supper, Shepherd's Pie and we finished it off with this. I love how everyone's eye's always light up for the dessert portion of supper. With the six of us there is usually someone who isn't thrilled about what's on the table for supper but they never fail to get excited about dessert.

Project 365

I have been lacking in inspiration for quite some time now. I don't know where it went or why but it's gone. I have decided that I really need to find it again so I am undertaking Project 365. It's all about documenting your daily life. I'm excited for it. It has many purposes; First it will get me back on track blogging again. I have really neglected my blog this past year.Second it will make me be creative in some manner everyday. Yeah!! Third I will have to pick up my camera everyday. Something I have not been doing lately. Fourth it should give me lots of photo's to scrapbook this year. :) I am not sure yet if I will continue to post my Project 365 photo's here or if I will start another blog and then just link them up here...we'll have to see. So now onto today's photo.

I didn't put up a Christmas tree this year in stead the kids each made one. I will be putting them away sometime this week and since I hadn't taken any photo's of them yet I thought this would be a great way to start. :)

Hi everyone who may still be following me. I know I've been very neglectful of my blog lately but that is going to change. I'm not going to make excuses....it's been a long year and my priorities changed and that's OK. December is going to fly by and 2011 will be here before many of us are ready for it. Altered book-drawer

I am sooooooo excited about how well this altered book turned out!! It's full of vintage goodies and distressing and Tim Holtz goodness. :) I used my dremel tool with a sandpaper attachment to do a lot of the sanding and distressing. Wow, what a time saver. It has found a permanent home on my desk!! Now I just have to find some goodies to hide in my drawer.

OPA

Opa is German for Grandfather. My Father-in-law has the gentlest spirit. I have never heard him raise is voice or speak in anger to anyone. He is sooooooo patient. He lives for his Grandchildren and loves to sit back and laugh at their antics. This photo of Opa and our youngest really captures these qualities. It is a photo that I love to look at.

The Fall Issue of Canadian Scrapbooker is out!!!! It's on the shelves....run don't walk to get your copy.

I am so excited to be featured in the Passport to Creativity!!! What an honour.I freaked to put it mildly when I opened that email. :) :) These are the 3 LO's that I created for the issue. I stressed over my Bio and felt a little "nerdy" answering my interview questions, but when it's all said and done I am very proud of how it all looks and reads. I want to send a big SHOUT OUT to my friend Karen of KMP Photography for doing my head shots and scraproom photos too.

Bird Call was created with Bo Bunny and some vintage goodies. I used my hole punch distress technique to finish it off.

I wish I could Freeze Time consists of Graphic 45 and some yummy Tim Holz items.

Toes is my last page. It has Basic Grey and my all time favorite photo of 2009.

Now who else was is this magazine????? How about checking out my friend Kate...she was featured in Passport to Creativity as well. She's such a talented scrapbooker and I am humbled to be in print with her.

There was a huge section devoted to Cancer...Breast Cancer to be exact. My friend Amanda has been battling and may I add kicking some serious cancer butt!!! She has several pages in this section of the magazine chronicling her battle, her ups and downs and her honesty regarding this disease is there for us all to see. She also has an amazing page in another section showcasing an awesome summer storm from 2009. She had her camera ready and got a shot of a lifetime.

My list could go on and on....there was so many talented Saskatchewan artists in this issue. I encourage you to go to your local scrapbook store and pick up your copy today. You wont be disappointed.

Discovery

I love how this page turned out. It is so bright and summery. I used a Hambly overlay on this page. I "fussy" cut the swirls off the overlay so I could place them exactly where I wanted them. I used a Fiskars border punch for the edging.

Butterflies

I used a Heidi Swapp butterfly mask and inked over it. I then took some Shimmerz and brushed that on. Stamped the title with StazOn ink. The black card stock was edged using my Fiscars scissors and a Hambly overlay finishes off the page. Quick, simple fun. The photo was taken at the Fireworks Festival last year. Scyap Inc. did the face painting. They were amazing.

Butterfly Card

I create cards very seldom. I just don't enjoy designing them. I don't know why. :) There are 3 photos of this card. I wanted to show how much dimension and texture was on it. I began by stamping the swirls with black archival ink. Then I stamped the butterfly 3 times. Once on the card base and twice on white card stock using Adirondack dye ink. I applied Rock Candy Distress crackle paint the the 2 stamps on the card stock. As you can see from the photo the ink did bleed a little. After the paint was dry I cut the butterflies out and pop dotted one over the butterfly that had been stamped on the card base. I then cut the second butterfly in half and pop dotted the only the top half on to the card. A little Stickles on the antennae and it was finished.

15 000 Visitors and a Layout

WOOHOO!!!! I can't believe that in my 3 short years of blogging I've had that many people come to visit me. Wow! Thank you so much. I will be doing something to celebrate so make sure to check back. Now onto my LO. I used Little Yellow Bicycle papers. I love their stuff so much fun to make boy pages with. It's a clean and simple LO. A little distressing and inking and it was done. The weekend we went camping last summer was cold and rainy. We had to wear our winter jackets. :) The kids really wanted to go swimming so with the first and only break in the weather we headed to the beach. Wolf turn a lovely shade of red with underlying hues of blue.

I printed the same picture 3 times and pop dotted the center picture for dimension and interest.I stamped the flowers and title and pop dotted those as well. Cosmo and Scenic Route paper strips for the background and it's a page completed. I love how this page turned out. I included a picture showing the dimension on this page.

I finally finished my Birthday album from last year. It was birthday # 36. I've been celebrating my birthday the last couple of years with my friends. We gather at JSI and scrap and party the night away. I'm sure we are loud and probably annoy the other scrappers but we just can't help ourselves. So here it is in all it's glory. Paper, inks, stamps, Glimmer Mist, vintage ribbon, bath sponge, vintage sewing pattern, a multitude of Tim Holtz items etc. I only showed 1 view of the tags so the blog post didn't get too long. Sorry about the shadowy pictures...I really need to stop photographing everything at night. :) With my next birthday just a few weeks away I guess I had better start planning the next party.

Survive

The journaling on this page was done for a challenge last year. I didn't like the finished LO so I reworked it. I'm happy with this LO. I never posted the other LO to my blog because I wasn't sure anyone would really be interested in a LO that was sad. The challenge was to write your story. To get down and dirty with your feelings/emotions. It was to be honest and thorough. I had never written down my feelings about my parents death. I had never scrapped my feelings about the accident. I wasn't sure I really wanted to even put this in the family album, but life isn't a bed of roses so I went ahead with the challenge and now I am ready to post it to my blog for everyone to see. After doing the challenge I am also more willing and ready to scrap those less then happy moments in our lives. Life is full of ups and downs and if I am scrapping a legacy for my children shouldn't all of our experiences be remembered???

I want to tell you that one of the worst days of your life is coming and there is no way for you to prepare for it. You are going to feel like the world has quit spinning. The pain you will feel will bring you to your knees. I wish I could just wrap you in my arms and keep you from finding out how unfair life can be. I want you to know that you will survive, you will be stronger because of this life changing event. You will find a strength you never knew you had. I wish you never had to know what it is like to grow up without your Mom or Dad. I wish that I could tell you that it will get easier . It doesn't! Time doesn't heal the pain it only dims the few memories you have. While you will find out that just when you think you have your grief under control something will happen to make you miss Mom and Dad all over again. Your graduation, not having Dad there to walk you down the aisle when you got married, missing Mom with your whole being when your babies are born. You will ache with every fiber of your being and need to talk to Mom and can't or need to be wrapped safe in Dad's arms. I promise you though that you will learn that it is OKAY to CRY. It is not a weakness, but a release. It will allow you to continue on. It will help you to heal, not miss them less but to cherish those few memories that you do have. I promise you that no 14 year old should ever have to deal with the shock of losing her parents in a split second. You will overcome so many more things over the next 22 years, that you will be able to look back on January 8th, 1988 and know that you will survive anything and be able to face it head on. You will grow to be strong, courageous and loving. You will become a woman that Mom and Dad would have been proud of. You will have a confidence in yourself and your abilities that will allow you to tackle life head on, with a smile on your face and an attitude of "come on world is this the best you can do?". You will have a take me as I am personality. Your true friends will accept and love this in you and those who don't aren't worth it. You will find a man who will cherish yo and love you for who you are. You will be a terrific MOM!! You will be a mom to 4 beautiful children. You will come to understand how young Mom and Dad really were when they died. You wont' waste a day of the next 22 years wishing you had done this of hadn't done that. You live your life to make yourself happy and your family feel loved. You have o regrets. At age 36, while you wish you could talk to Mom and Dad just one more time you know you wouldn't be the person you are today if their plane hadn't crashed that fateful day.

Soldier Boy

I received some exciting news last night....I will share the news soon so stay tuned. ;) While you are waiting here's a LO for you to enjoy.

Wolfgang loves anything to do with the Military. Last year at the Family Expo there was a huge Military display. The soldiers who were working that day were fantastic. The had rifles the kids could handle and aim, a night vision obstacle course and the helmet and vest for the kids to try on. Man was that vest heavy. Wolf was so proud and excited to try them on.

This is a simple no frills LO several of the circles are pop dotted for dimension as well as a little stitching just for texture. I used the Tim Holtz craft scratcher to scratch out the busy background of the photo. I sanded the edges of my circles and journal strips and it was a page complete.

Garage Sale and Flea Market Finds

We went "junking" on the weekend. I found a few fun items that put a smile on my face. The first is this cheque. There was a box full, but at $1 each I only bought 4. I really wanted more but I had to walk away. :)

Next is this camera. I love it. It makes me smile every time I look at it. All the nobs and dials work. It slides in and out and closes perfect. I paid $10. I have no idea if that is a good deal or not but it really doesn't matter. I really wanted it.

My little shelf. A great find at $2. It's about 2 feet high and maybe a foot wide. It is going to be home to all sorts of treasures. :)

My last find of the weekend is this video camera. A great find at $3. Everything moves and works. The camera bag is in great condition, it still has the lens cap and inside the yellow box it the tin that the film reel came in. The film is long gone but it is nice to have the tin.

I've been stalking my friends blogs this week and was inspired to "play" along. My friend Saucy and my friend Kate have both done Celebrity Boyfriend lists. Saucy did an amended list and Kate compiled her first list. Combine both these ladies fantastic lists with my 11 year old daughter going on and on lately with all the "hotties" in her world ( think Joe Jonas etc.) led me to think; why not compile my own list?

Let me begin with Mark Harmon. He is Gibbs from NCIS. Love this show and love him. I think my crush on him began in 1987 when he played Mr. Shoop. A summer school teacher who had to teach a class of misfits.He was yummy then but I think age has definitely made him more yummy.

Next on my list is Ty Pennington. MMM... I drool every time I look at him. His boyish charm and hard body are a nice combination, don't ya think? Besides I think every woman should have a handyman on her list.

Hugh Jackman is a very handsome man but dress him as Wolverine and he's down right delicious. I have all the X-Men movies and watch them as often as I can. :) I keep telling Ray that I'm going to buy him a Wolverine costume. Hmmm maybe this is the year. :)

Keanu Reeves. I've always found him attractive but I think he has really come into his own the last few years. Loved him in Point Break and The Replacements (football movie) He has Canadian ties which I think is awesome. The motorcycle and leather pants don't hurt the cause any.

Johnny Depp is another actor I have crushed after for years. It all started with 21 Jump street and What's Eating Gilbert Grape. He has become more attractive every year. His movie rolls/characters are always interesting. My favorite??? Captain Jack Sparrow.

The Sweat Hogs and Grease began the next love affair. John Travolta. He's had a few years where he kind of let himself go and we all thought huh?? but let's face it he has a certain charm to him. I think it's his eyes and the dimple on his chin. I'm a sucker for eyes. They'll get me every time.Well that and I'll always think of him as Danny Zuko.

Bruce Willis aka. John McClane comes skidding in next. I know, I know, you all are wondering what's wrong with me. I think it's as much the characters he plays as it is the man he is. I just get this feel safe feeling with him. He's going to save the day and keep me from harm. Ok, you can quit rolling your eyes now. I'm allowed one off the wall submission.

Lastly but certainly not least is George Eads. He is CSI's very own Nick Stokes. He makes me want to be a bad girl. Ok. I'll just leave it at that.

So that's my list right now. I will probably alter it at some point but for right now at this moment in time these are the Celebrities that make me go MMMMM.

Fourteen years ago I married my best friend. We've grown alot during these past years. The day we got married we had no jobs and no place to live. One week later we ahd a place to live but still no jobs. :) Off we went on our Honeymoon. We'll stress over the job thing when we get back. We have never looked back. We have no regrets. We have loved fiercely, laughed daily and chosen to remain together and work at it. Four children later and we are happier and more in love now than we were then. I couldn't imagine my life with out Ray. We may be complete opposites but I thik that's what keeps it interesting and sometimes frusterating. I look forward to walking down this road together untill we're unable to walk anymore. We'll be hand in hand,finding the humor in whatever life continues to throw at us. Happy Anniversary Ray. I love you.

Bikes and big trucks

We went to the Monster Trucks on the weekend. The kids had a blast and I enjoyed trying to get that perfect photo. :)I thought I had captured some really good shots but my critics were the kids and I think they think everything is "cool". I went through tonight with a much more critical eye and I think I have some ok shots but nothing really,really great. The day was fun and in the end that is all that matters.

The extreme bikes were fun to watch. The boys can't wait to try "jumping" their (peddle)bikes this summer. I lucked out and caught the tough truck just before it flipper over. Take a look and tell me what you think.

I took part in the Bo Bunny Sketch Challenge . I really enjoyed it. I had to really hunt to find some Bo Bunny papers in my stash (a friend had raided my stash a while back and I hadn't replenished yet)but I did find some fun papers to play with.

I used Grease Monkey,Dark Denim Dot,Orange Citrus Dot and some scraps from the same line for embellishments, a little machine stiching and the page was finished. The 2 "flowers" on the bottom were made by cutting different sized circles from the scraps and distressing the edges and sewing them together. It's just a fun page rembering how much fun my son had blowing the fluff off of the Dandelions.

I tried my hand at a Leica page. This woman is so talented at taking a blank piece of paper and with only a few ink pads and stamps creating something that is totally amazing. Anyhoo I gave it a whirl. I'm not sure how I feel about the page yet. It is growing on me. It was so much fun to just let loose and see where creativity took me. I do love the colors and how "summery" the page feels. What do you think??

I took apart an old board book and used the pages like a mask with my Glimmer Mist. I the green gears are chipboard that I inked and Glossy Accented and the orange gears were stamped,embossed and hand cut. I used pop dots to pop them off the page.

I stopped at the Dollar Store and picked up this yellow football just to help keep their little guy occupied. I created some art. Can you believe it? It seems like it has been forever since I last felt like getting messy and letting the creative juices flow. I found this wall hanging at a thrift store for $1.99 about 6months ago and it has been kicking around my craftroom every since. I was finally inspired today to do something with it. It was a very shiny brass so I Alcohol Inked it in several colours just to give it some depth. I than Glimmer misted the "base". Found a picture I liked and a quote that spoke to me added some vintage goodies and voila I am done. I think I like it.

I loved this purple flower and the blurred background. I Really fell in love with it after I turned it black and white.

Here is some of the "wild life" I found while we were hiking.

I never should have shown Ruby-Jean how much fun this is. If she spots a Dandylion with "fuzz" she has to stop and blow it away.

Cake Dilemma

Oh what hard desisions there are to make when you have a birthday looming on the horizon. Wolfgang will be 7 tomorrow and had such a hard time deciding on what cake he wanted for his birthday. We started with a Football cake and then it was a Rocketship. Then he thought maybe a Basketball cake would be nice. When I sugested a cake that would look like Taylor Feild (Mosaik Stadium) he went wild!!!!! Then I turned the page in my cake ideas book and his eyes fell upon this tiger. That was it. He found his cake. I love how it turned out (even if it is a little lopsided) and Wolf is beyond excited for tomorrow when he can finally taste it.

It was my birthday on Sunday but I had my party on Friday. It was a riot. We laughed till it hurt then we laughed some more. I have some of the best friends a girl could have. They know how to have a good time. Life has been getting in the way for a few of us so it was just so much fun to let loose for a little while. Hi everyone. I had such great intentions of keeping my blog up this summer but life has once again gotten in the way. I have a very close family member in the hospital right now. The Dr.'s are preparing us for the worst. They are not optimistic that he will survive. He is battling a very serious infection and the medications that are supposed to help him fight the infection are causing his kidneys to shut down. I have been "living" at the hospital for the last 10 days. My poor husband and children have been left to fend for themselves. I am living on coffee and little sleep.

DH has a few days off this week so I hope to lock myself in my scrap room and create some art. I need to find a day to just decompress.

Ruby's 4th Birthday

We celebrated Ruby-Jean's birthday a little early. Her "real" day is next Saturday and she will be 4.She asked for a Princess party so I tried to give her a little of that. We went shopping and picked out some balloons and napkins and party hats. I wanted to keep it pretty low key and thankfully she was thrilled with all that I let her pick out.

She had her Oma and Opa here for the day but I think the highlight of her day was when her "special" friend came. We will call him W. I forgot to ask his mom if I could post his picture but I'll tell you all about it. W and Ruby are as thick as thieves. Ruby calls W her "boyfriend" it really is quite cute but I think it may distress W a little. He knew exactly what she would love for a gift (thanks W's mom) and he made her Birthday card himself and wrote in it. It was way too cute. Ruby gave W a huge hug after opening her gift and reading her card. Lets just say it was adorable. Being a man though he was all about the cake and ice cream. He kept telling me how great the cake was. I really don't think it was the Princess cake that had him impressed I think it was the icing. :)

I am going to toot my horn a little. This cake turned out awesome. I am so happy with the end result. Ruby helped to do a little of the decorating yesterday but she hadn't seen the finished cake. This morning when she opened the fridge her mouth hit the floor. "Oh Mommy" was all she could say.

I still can't believe my "baby" is 4. I feel as though I blinked and she grew up. I am glad though that she still likes snuggle time with Mommy and I will continue to cherish those moments. She is my baby and always will be. She can make me laugh without trying. Sometimes she says things that stop me in my tracks and just giggle. This is my perpetually happy child. As the youngest of 4 she sometimes has no choice but to be happy, it can take me a while to get to her sometimes. My favorite part about being Ruby-Jean's mom though is this: She will find me where ever I am and give me a hug and say "I love you Mommy". I don't take that for granted.I am blessed to be called her Mommy.

We were out at my my Father in law's farm for Mother's Day weekend. It was a gorgeous weekend and I couldn't resist doing a little photo shoot with the kids. This old car made for a fabulous backdrop. The kids thought it was fun to be able to crawl all over it and "pose" for me.

Our next stop was this old wagon wheel. I love how it turned out.

This was my favorite picture of the weekend though. I love it. I love that Opa and Ruby are holding hands as they walk together. I love how the sun is side lighting Ruby's hair and how it is creating this white halo on my Father-in-law. I love his hair. It is snow white and so soft. This picture just speaks to me of family and memories of my own Grandfather and walking with him hand in hand. I think my most favorite part of this picture is that they didn't know I was behind them. This photo just speaks to me of a Grandfather's Love.

Star Student

Wolf is the Star Student this week so instead of using the premade templates that the teacher sent home (glue a picture on a piece of paper) Wolf and I sat down and did this on the computer instead. Smilebox is a digital scrapbook program that I had played around with before but that was about it. It is so easy to navigate. Wolf did almost all the work himself. I helped him load in the pictures and did the typing but he picked the backgrounds and which pictures he wanted to use. He used the scanner and printer. He learned how to replace the ink cartridge in the printer. He learned how to remove elements he didn't want. He dragged and dropped the pictures into their spots. He learned how to save a file and where to save it to.

He did an awesome job. I sat back and just helped when he needed it. The Star Student wall at school has received a lot of compliments and interest so far this week. I am so proud of what he accomplished over the weekend. I think the Sprts Magazine cover and the Wanted poster are my favorites.

We went to the park last night trying to run the mischief bugs out of the kids before bed. They ran and they ran unfortunately the mischief bugs remained.LOL. I was snapping pictures left right and center and when I called to Wolf to turn around I snapped this....I think it is one of my all time favorite pictures. What do you think????

Roughriders in Saskatoon

On April 19 we went out to Griffiths Stadium to watch Matt Dominguez's Football Camp. This camp was for students from grade 9-12. I think that it is pretty cool that these guys come out and show our up and coming footballers how to improve their game. I mean how cool is it to be given advice from a "hero"? Someone whom they watch play this fantastic game for a living!!!After they were done we were able to go out on the field and meet the Riders. Pretty cool. I am not sure who was more excited Dad or the kids because they got to meet 7 Riders or me because I got to play around with my camera???

As promised here is one of my honourable mention layouts from the Sask Scraps weekend. I love how this turned out. I used my Notebook border punch man do I love this punch. I heat embossed the grey paper with a gelee orange embossing powder. I also embossed the quote which is from Tim Holtz's Nature 's Discovery stamp set. A few metal accents and I was done. I like how this page turned out.

I attended Sask Scraps last weekend. What a hoot. I got to meet and take a class with Allison Orthner. Wow!!!!This lady is fantastic! If you ever get to take one of her classes do so. Jill Hildebrand is a riot! Leica Forrest is amazing! Yes I had a good time. I did a little shopping, a little scrapping and a lot of visiting.

I was encouraged by friends and family to enter some layouts for publication....so I did. Holy Smokes did I represent.LOL. I had 2 LO's chosen for Honorable mention and 1 will be published in Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine. WOW!!!It's been a week and I think I am still floating on cloud nine.LOL. Here I am posing with Jackie Ludlage from Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine. This lady is so much fun to hang with.

Our time with Rambling Dave

Let me start today's post with a huge thank you to Leica Forrest for organizing such a fantastic crop. Woot!Woot! You rawk girl! It was so much fun to see old friends and meet new friends and to put faces to the names on the Just Cre8 Forum board. It was an awesome weekend.

Now many of you know that C95's Rambling Dave sometimes speaks before he thinks. This was the case last week. He made a reference on the radio 1 morning about how scrapbooking was just glorified sticker collecting. Lets just say the scrapping community of Saskatoon soon set him straight. After a week of this being a hot topic every morning during his radio show he graciously agreed to come for a visit on Saturday. While we all know his comment was tongue in cheek and we were all joking about it we still wanted him and many others to understand why we do this hobby. I think that Dave really took away an understanding and, maybe even some appreciation for the art which we create. He now knows this is much more than a hobby for us it is a passion!
Thank you Dave for being such a good sport about the whole thing and spending a little of your Saturday with us.

In this photo Dawn Hauser and Leica Forrest (center) are presenting Dave with some ART. Dawn is an amazing artist. The book Dave is holding in is had is a 1 of a kind journal that Dawn made just for him. It has his name in it and it is embellished in metal. Very Cool. The book in Dawn's hands is a mini album all about Sam, Dave's beloved dog of 14 years. Dave had to put Sam to sleep recently and Dawn felt this would be a wonderful gift to give Dave. He was very touched. His eyes welled up with tears and while many of us gathered around were smiling and chuckling it was not to make fun of Dave. Many of us had tears in our eyes as well. This is why we scrap. It is to preserve those memories. Happy and Sad.

Yep this is me at 35!!!Pink hair and comfortable in her own skin!Who'd a ever thunk it??I distressed the photo using Tim Holtz's scratchy tool.Hole punched the edges of the PP to distress it and I journaled about me for a change. All the things I am and all the things I do. I love my life.I love where I've been and look forward to where I am going. I am happy with the path I chose!!

I used Just Cre8's February Kit for this LO. I stamped the ribbon,made torn paper flowers and stiched the stem. I love this page. It reminds me of my own school days.

I blew this picture of Wolf up to an 8x10 size and then cut the part of the picture I wanted out. I splatter painted the background and did some stiching on the page. I love how it turned out.

My goal this year is to try and use more of my scraps up. So with that being said here are a couple cards I made from my scraps.

I really like how the INSPIRED card turned out. Using my hole punch to distress my edges is my favorite technique right now. I think the last 4 or 5 projects have had this done somewhere on them.

We were on our way home from Ray's office kids Christmas party and Ruby-Jean fell asleep. Her hand was buried in her bag from Santa and she wasn't letting go for nothing. We made it all the way home and the bag never fell off her lap. I used some stuff from the December kit I got from Just Cre8 and some stuff from my stash.

Monster Truck Show

We went to the Monster Trucks on Sunday afternoon. Kayne had started talking about monster trucks back in the fall so when we asked him a few weeks ago what he wanted for his birthday he asked to go see the Monster Trucks. So this is how we celebrated his 5th birthday.

This is the driver of Jurassic Attack. She was super nice to the kids.

This was Wolfgang's reaction to the Trucks. I think he really liked the Extreeem Quad Racing and the Freestyle Motorcross.

Today is shaping up to be a great day. The tire is fixed on the van. YEAH!!! It is gorgeous outside today +4 is the forcasted high. I'm going scrapping with a bunch of friends tonight.I really need to get out of the house. I hope my creativity is flowing tonight when I get to my favorite place to play...Just Scrap IT! It's the last Friday of January which means winter is sort of maybe kinda coming to an end? only a few more weeks and we should be able to smell spring in the air. It has been such a long winter because it has been so cold. You know that kind of cold where your nostrils freeze shut when you breathe. I hope to get some photos taken this weekend of pages I have done so keep checking back to see what I have come up with.

Do you ever feel as though LIFE is hurling at you at 100 MPH? Speed bumps, road hazards,sharp bend in the road,Bridge washed out? You know the hole 9 yards. It feels like that some days. Yesterday afternoon I was waaayyy late leaving to pick the kids up from school...so I already know this is not going to be a good trip across the city. I was stopped at a red light when the driver of the vehicle behind me got out of his jeep and started walking up to me. I thought oh no this isn't going to be good...he tapped on the window and informed me I had a flat tire. Oh Crap! Thankfully I was only a couple blocks away from a gas station so I stopped to put air in my tire. When I knelt down by the tire I could hear the air hissing and see the bubbles forming around a nice gash. Oh Crap! This gas station is right across the street from my church so I drove over there praying that someone would be there. Yes! Our Youth pastor was still there and he saved the day by lending me his car to run and get the kids. (silly man doesn't he know how I drive?) Don't worry Adam I didn't speed.:) So I picked the kids up and came back across town, gave Adam back his car and called Roadside Assistance to come and change my tire. They were there in like 20 minutes and had it changed around in no time. Yeah! I spent the this morning tyring to get the flat fixed...too big of a hole so I had to buy a new tire. It will be here by the weekend. We got a good deal on it so I can't complain too much.

Last night while the boys were getting ready for bed Wolf thought it would be a good idea to kick his brother in the head. Well Kayne stopped the kick with his eye. Don't ask I really have no idea how it happened. It really didn't look very good and I thought Oh Crap! here's another trip to the ER. With 4 kids I have made a few trips, but not as many as Tim the Tool Man.:) A little ice and the swelling went down. MY Dr. had shown me a few years ago how to do a proper pupil dilation test and Kayne checked out fine with that. No double vision and he could track my finger well so I determined that ER was not necessary this time. An hour of cuddling with mommy and a little TV time and he was right as rain. He woke up this morning and doesn't seem to be any worse for ware. Any bets on how long it takes for the next injury to occur in our house? And I wonder why my sanity is iffy some days.:)

I have some fun stuff planned for the weekend so hopefully the rest of the week goes smooth.

Where does the time go? I had big plans to blog everyday or at least every other day..... oh well. What has been happening in my world?
I took 3 weeks holidays during Christmas. I know those of you who know me are thinking well you just work from home... For those who may not know me or are new to my blog I have a little hair salon in my home. Most years I am doing Christmas hair do's till the 23rd or 24th. This year I took time for me and my family. I had all my evenings free to spend with Ray and the Kids. Ray booked 2 weeks off during Christmas so we really just spent time reconnecting as a family. With it being so cold we didn't even leave the house most days. It was nice.

What's new since New Years?
The kids have been busy with school and homework. I went scrapping one Saturday with so0me friends and still need to add a few little finishing touches to the pages. I have a layout currently on my desk that has been there for almost 2 weeks and I just haven't had time to get to it. I have been busy with clients wanting a new do for the new year. My goal was to slow down my life but that doesn't look like it will happen anytime soon. :) We are starting to talk about what we want to do for summer holidays. The kids want to go camping again this summer and I am sure this will happen but Ray suggested driving to BC again this year. The last time we did this we had 3 kids, Blaze was 5, Wolfgang was almost 2 and Kayne was 5 month's and we drove a Neon. Want to talk about cramped quarters? This trip we will have 4 kids, Blaze is 10, Wolfgang will be 7, Kayne will be 5 and Ruby-Jean will be 4 and we now drive a Grand Caravan. I am sure we will still be loaded to the max but I am sure it will still be more spacious than the car was.
We have had so much cold weather that I am really looking forward to summer and a few holidays spent on a beach somewhere.

Sorry for the delay in posting this. I went out with some friends to do some scrapping today. We had a blast. Shortly after I got home my oldest son pushed his brother into the wall (corner) and he cracked his head open. I swelled up pretty good and bled some. I have spent most of my evening trying to get the swelling down and the bleeding to stop. It doesn't look like he has a concussion and I don't think he will need stitches but he'll probably have a bit of a headache for a day or two. He's asking for food and he didn't get drowsy so I think I am safe in sending him to bed. So the names that were drawn are April and Aleks. By my clock it is 12:52. 2009 has been here for 52 minutes already. We had super friends over for supper, games and refreshments. We had a great time. It is the first New Years Eve we have celebrated in years. Usually we are so sick with colds or the flu or the kids are so sick that we miss the New Years arrival.
What do I want 2009 to be like? I haven't really decided yet. 2008 wasn't a bad year for us. We were stretched a little and grew a lot, but isn't every year a little like that? 2008 was filled with friends and laughter,celebrations and get-togethers. We saw some friends get married, others had babies and sadly we lost some friends along the way too.
I look back on the year that passed and think that it was a pretty good year maybe not as good as some but better than others, can't that be true for most years?
I don't know what 2009 will bring but I am sure looking forward to the ride. It is never boring and it's always kind of exciting to see what is waiting for us just around the next corner.

Clean Scraproom

I am going to start off 2009 with a clean scraproom. This is the space that I create in. It is the first room I visit in the morning and the last room I visit before going to bed. This is where my children will find me when they are hungry and my husband will find me when he's lonely. It is my favorite room in the house. Friends call this room candy for the eyes and other's just shake their heads and don't understand. This is where friends come to play and laughter can be heard. Sometimes I stick to the floor or on some days I can't even find the floor. It is a room that inspires me and never fails to put a smile on my face. Who wants to come and make a mess with me?

My tree topper

This is my tree topper. I bought her 6 years ago.She has graced the top of my tree every year since. This is the 1 ornament I cherish above all. She remind me of home and of my Grandmother's tree. She always makes me stop and think about what it is I am supposed to be celebrating. I am very happy to have this on my tree and will be very sad when I one day will have to "retire" her (hopefully many years down the road.)
